Too hot to cook? No worries! You can whip up this tasty homemade banana dog treat recipe in your microwave! Like our peanut butter banana pup popsand no-bake peanut butter treats, these babies don’t require you to turn on the oven at all. If memory serves me, I think this is our first microwavable dog treat recipe. It was so much fun to make, though, so I definitely want to try out some more in the future!

This particular recipe is perfect for senior dogs with fewer teeth. The consistency is that of a soft treat, yet it’s still loaded with plenty of tasty ingredients. Since it contains flour and milk, I wouldn’t really call it a hypoallergenic dog treat. However, if you keep reading, I’ll give you some tips on how to make it more allergy-friendly for your dog. Ingredients:

• 1 egg
• 1 cup instant oats
• 1/2 ripe banana
• 1/3 cup of milk
• 1/2 cup of flour (your choice as to what kind)
• 1/8 cup of instant rice

How to make

Mash the banana in a bowl. One by one, add in all the other ingredients, mixing until well blended.

• Spread out the mix on a microwave-safe plate.
• Heat the mix in the microwave for about 3.5 minutes.
• Let cool.
• Cut into pieces, then serve. Store leftovers in an air-tight container.

Tips to make it a hypoallergenic dog treat recipe

Depending on your dog’s allergies, you can make a few easy swaps and turn this into a hypoallergenic dog treat. Check out these swaps you can make for the most common allergens:

• Egg:in this recipe, the egg helps to bind the other ingredients together. You can swap it with something like 1/4 cup of pureed baby food in a complimentary flavor.Agar Agar (a vegetarian alternative to gelatin) is also safe for dogs, if you happen to have it on hand.
• Milk:since it’s acting as a moisture-provider here, you can probably swap it with juice. It will change the consistency and taste a bit, but it should still work.
• Flour:We usually use wheat flour in our non-hypoallergenic treats, but pretty much anything goes. Coconut flour, almond meal, extra oats, it’s up to you.
