Before we begin taking a look at the top ten recruiting classes for 2024, I just have to say this was a hard assignment (that I assigned to myself). At Prep Dig, we have a database of thousands of players where we are able to track commits, clubs, high schools, etc. However, we do not have everyone so searching and confirming commits was a tedious process. This is simply a tool. A tool to keep recruiting classes organized, a tool for us to see how they progress throughout their college careers, transfer rates, and we can also recognize the success of these athletes and even the college coaching staffs who work relentlessly to get the best student athletes on campus. As I went back through these rankings, I would find different reasons to change things and make adjustments, this is splitting hairs. With that said, here are the top ten recruiting classes for the Class of 2024.
Deciding Criteria:
-Number of nationally ranked commits via the Prep Dig Class of 2024 National Rankings
-Commits with potential to contribute early
-Total body of work for the incoming class
Gators On Top
Alec Rothe and Jaela Auguste are some of the top all around athletes in this class where they spent time with the USA Youth National Team. They are just different. Lauren Harden was recently named the Max Preps Player of the Year. This class is deep and it is extremely talented. Florida did not have the greatest luck when it came to injuries with top players having season ending injuries. When they return and add in this class? They could be an immediate threat to be a top three squad in 2024.
The Ohio State Bounce Back
Ohio State will be home this weekend instead of playing in the NCAA tournament. They are bringing in a lot of firepower that includes one of the top outside hitters in the Class of 2024 in Emerson Sellman out of the DC area. Kaia Caffee is an extremely physical middle blocker out of Minnesota and Olivia Hasbrook is a top libero in this class as well. They could see immediate playing time and have a huge upside.
Figuring Out Stanford
In our rankings we had Avery Jackson and Babi Gubbins committing to Stanford. Those two are top twenty athletes, but they will be playing on the sand at Stanford. Athletes also commit to the “Admissions Process” to Stanford. To say you’re going to Stanford to being admitted to Stanford is quite the difference. An athlete isn’t going to post “I’m going to Stanford” to then go back saying they didn’t get into the school. They will have Elizabeth Andrew out of the PNW who could be an instant impact middle/right side and Taylor Yu who is one of the top setters in the West.
Kansas On The Rise
Six commits, three in the top 60 from the Class of 2024 have the Jayhawks at number five. There is a ton of firepower coming in this class. Grace Nelson is a hard hitting outside hitter out of Chicagoland who has been a key fixture to the success of her 1st Alliance squad her whole career. Zoey Burgess is one of the most decorated players out of Utah and is extremely physical out of the middle with her physical frame. Reese Ptacek from Wisconsin has played club during her career at Northern Lights out of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro brings in an extremely dynamic skill set where she can score off one foot, out of the middle, or right side. The Jayhawks are hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament and are continuing their momentum with this Class of 2024.
A Wild Card With Wisconsin
Charlie Feurbringer is going to be special for Wisconsin. She could play immediately with the graduation of Izzy Ashburn and MJ Hammill (she does have an option for a 5th year). Lola Schumacher continues the Munciana pipeline to Wisconsin and brings a relentless intensity to the DS/Libero position. They have two big international commits coming to Madison with Tosia Serafinowska out of Poland and Trinity Shadd-Ceres out of Canada. Wisconsin has done well with their international recruiting to say the least and these two could be scary good for the Badgers.
Conference Changes
Saying UCLA, USC, Washington, Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin will take some getting used to, however saying Stanford and Louisville will be competing for an ACC title year in and year out is something I didn’t have on my BINGO card. This will ultimately have an impact on recruiting. We are seeing with the Class of 2025 there are Midwest kids committing to California schools knowing they will come back to play in front of their family. The same can be said of coastal recruits that are heading to the Midwest. This isn’t even factoring in the potential NIL impacts at some of these schools, especially in the Big Ten.
